Compliance Officer

Role: Compliance Officer

Salary: Negotiable

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:30

Location: Blackburn

Company/Role Overview:

The Compliance Officer will assist the Compliance Manager in assessing, advising, monitoring and reporting on the legal, regulatory and compliance requirements across the business with a view to establishing, implementing and maintaining a robust and effective compliance framework through the creation of appropriate policies and procedures.

The Compliance Officer will work closely with all departments within the business to develop an excellent working knowledge of this area as well as ensuring compliance with internal policy and procedure.

The Compliance Officer shall assist the Compliance Manager in undertaking research of relevant legal / regulatory / best practice issues as well as assisting in the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly management information to the business in all areas. Full training will be provided.


This role will be busy, varied and demanding - duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a point of contact for employees to communicate with management, seek clarification on issues or dilemmas, or report irregularities;
  • Maintain documentation of compliance activities, such as complaints received, risks identified and investigation outcomes;
  • Evaluate the efficiency of controls and improve them continuously;
  • Draft, modify and implement procedures, policies, processes and reports periodically to identify risk and comply with the business objective;
  • Ensuring that business reporting is maintained on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, implementing efficiencies where applicable;
  • Oversee internal reporting systems;
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure the implementation of consistent strategies in cases of violations;
  • Provide assistance to internal or external auditors in compliance reviews;
  • Record and monitor all business critical key dates;
  • Administrative support to the Compliance Department (and other departments as and when required);
  • Responsibility for the firm’s legal library.

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Experience of working in any of the following disciplines / environments is desirable: complaints handling, reporting, legal, regulatory, compliance, risk assessment, risk management, research;
  • Integrity - maintaining consistently high standards of work, loyalty, honesty and commitment;
  • Diligent - you must be willing to see an issue through to resolution;
  • A high level of attention to detail is essential to this position;
  • Outstanding planning and time management abilities;
  • Ability to multi-task;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with Fee Earners and Managers;
  • Excellent IT skills; fully competent with Microsoft Office applications and case management software such as Proclaim; ability to use other software products and online programmes.
