Job Title: HR Advisor

Reports To: Practice Manager

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on HR practices across the Firm, in an evolving HR Advisor role.

The successful candidate will be working alongside the Practice Manager and Leadership Team, to achieve the Firm’s vision for HR. This includes achieving both short-term and long-term objectives.

There is huge scope for progression and for the successful candidate to build a long-term career in HR in this role. The role will evolve as the HR Advisor progresses both their own and also the HR/Recruitment Team capabilities.

Main Duties

The HR Advisor will initially be responsible for undertaking a full review of the main HR processes and policies, alongside successfully embedding themselves within the Firm as the key point of contact for HR.

The successful candidate will establish the HR function in the Firm and also input on HR matters across the Group. Therefore the Main Duties will be subject to change in regards to the scope of the role, however in the main the duties will be as follows:

  • Proactive management of all Employee Relations activities, including but not limited to the following:
    • Disciplinary
    • Grievance
    • Performance (including robust Probation management)
    • Absence Management
    • Flexible Working
    • Terms and Conditions
    • Redundancy
    • Health and Wellbeing
    • Maternity/Paternity/Shared Parental Leave/Adoption Leave
    • Employee Engagement
  • Robust escalation of any Employee Relations activities through the relevant stages of the given process, for example supporting Management with progressing Performance cases through to Disciplinary as needed.
  • Inputting on (and leading as needed) any initiatives that arise in the Firm, such as: Health and Wellbeing, Rewards and Benefits, Training and Development, Employee Engagement and Employer Branding.
  • Responsibility for overseeing and contributing to the HR Assistant and Group Recruitment Officer’s daily duties and overall performance.
  • Inputting on Group Recruitment activities in supporting the Group Recruitment Officer. This includes advising on HR related aspects that impact on Recruitment actions and also providing cover for the Group Recruitment Officer when they are on annual leave/supporting during peak periods.
  • Covering for the HR Assistant when they are on annual leave/supporting during peak periods.
  • Attending meetings to advise on HR related matters (including note taking), which could involve Employee Relations meetings and also Project meetings.
  • Ensuring that any Employment Law updates are appropriately communicated to the Leadership Team, advising on any required/suggested actions.
  • Updating Policies and Processes in line with Employment Law updates, Industry changes and sound working practices.
  • Building on Management capabilities, through coaching/advice/any training required.
  • Co-ordinating the monthly Payroll data and submission to Finance (New Starters/Changes/Leavers/Sickness/Pay Changes etc). The HR Assistant will lead on this and the HR Advisor will oversee and input as appropriate, in line with statutory requirements and Employee Relations matters.
  • Monitoring and auditing that Policies and Processes are being adhered to, taking appropriate action to resolve any none-adherence.
  • Utilising Management Information and making informed business suggestions/decisions – ensuring that all Member records are updated on an ongoing basis (both paper-based and electronic).
  • Managing any requests for information, ensuring appropriate responses to each request.
  • Driving continuous improvements in what the HR function delivers as support to the Firm, which may include updates to systems, processes and policies for business efficiencies and customer satisfaction.
  • To ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
  • To champion the Core Values of the Group at all times.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the position.


Person Specification

We are looking to appoint an experienced HR Advisor - who is keen to progress, is proactive and is able to drive forward a developing HR/Recruitment Team.

The HR Advisor will already have an established HR background, with proven experience of providing clear advice and coaching to managers at all levels, on a range of employee relations matters.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a commitment to their own continuous professional development, along with what improvements they have made within a HR function. The HR Advisor will have excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads whilst ensuring that risks are assessed and a range of options and solutions are identified.




  • Comprehensive HR Advisory experience, with prior responsibility for a wide range of Employee Relations actions
  • Ability to be the lead for the HR function in all HR matters
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills at all levels
  • Strong IT skills including; Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong time keeping, presentation and organisational skills
  • Ability to work to and achieve various competing deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Ability to research, analyse and present any recommendations in a timely manner
  • Ability to build effective working relationships at all levels and departments, up to and including the Executive Board
