The main responsibilities will include areas as outlined in the 'Practice Skills Standards'. These standards outline the key skills that you will need to develop, to succeed as a Trainee Solicitor and become a Solicitor:

  • Advocacy and Oral Presentation;
  • Case and Transaction Management;
  • Client Care and Practice Support;
  • Communication Skills;
  • Dispute Resolution;
  • Drafting;
  • Interviewing and Advising;
  • Legal Research;

You will commence your career as a Legal Assistant in either in the RTA or Medical Negligence department and must pass a probation period of 6 months in order to be considered for the training contract opportunity. Successful candidates will gain varied experience in different departments within the firm, as based upon business needs - and as your skills progress, so will your duties.
In order to develop the necessary skills, you will be involved in the following activities:

  • Completing work and tasks by yourself;
  • Assisting in assessing merits of a case;
  • Liaising with clients and third parties;
  • Assisting senior members with all aspects of their caseload;
  • Reviewing medical records and reports;
  • Observing experienced members of the firm.

Full support will be provided throughout the duration of your training, with the actual timescales for completion to be confirmed with the successful applicant.
Skills/Experience Required:

  • Legal Practice Course (LPC)/Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL)/A Qualifying Law Degree (LLB) (including working towards);
  • Prior legal experience is desirable, but not essential;
  • Excellent team working skills with the ability to work collaboratively and co-operatively with colleagues;
  • Proven IT skills and ability to adapt new technology;
  • Ability to demonstrate strong administrative and organisational skills;
  • Excellent communication skills including oral and written presentation skills;
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information with discretion and to maintain confidentiality at all times;
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;
  • Ability to assimilate large quantities of written and verbal communication quickly and concisely.
